Introduction
This was in May of 2022 that I had this urge to do a longer bike ride. My parents were due to fly to Crete, to celebrate my Mum's birthday during the last decade of May. I thought if I left around the beginning of May, I might make it all the way to Greece, probably to the port of Pireus next to Athens, where I would catch a ferry - and there I was (or would be). I planned some two weeks for this trip, starting somewhere in Slovenia.
The distance "down there" would be roughly 1.400 kilometers and I would have about 14 days if I were to arrive on time for the birthday, leaving a couple of days in reserve if I arrived a bit later - but still within the span of the week-long holiday. That is not all too bad - about 100 kilometers a day is achievable.
Let us see how this trip turned out to be.
Spoiler alert - yes, I did make it to Crete. No, not quite as I had planned it out.
